Davis Roots, Business Incubator

While maintaining a portion of his own consulting business Stone’s Throw Principal, Scott Ragsdale, took on the management of Davis Roots Busienss Incubator. This locally focused business incubator was establishe to attract UCD and Davis talent, mentors, network and funds so that startups could build national and international scale businesses. The mission was to establish University of California Davis and the City of Davis innovators and help them make Davis their permanent home.

Scott was also entrusted with the management of Davis Roots’ inspiring home, the1875 Hunt-Boyer Mansion, the launch pad for startup teams enrolled in the Davis Roots incubator.

Under Scott’s management Davis Roots produced and hosted the “Build Your Own Business” instructional series and “Ask a Lawyer”, Davis Angels Network investment community and  “Davis hack Nights” with the ASUCD’s Entrepreneurship Fund.

Scott also grew allegences between Davis Roots other larger institutions including Child Family Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, UCD Venture Catalyst, Sacramento Angels, Velocity Venture, Hackerlab, Urban Hive and Area 52.

In 2016, Scott onboarded Psynthesys – a promising clinical trial management company – one of twelve startups Scott prepared for Board review. Scott also assisted past Roots incumbents companies such as Barobo, SonanuTech, and The Gift of Education.

With support from the Davis Roots Board of Director, the City of Davis and sponsors DLA Piper and Five Star Bank, Scott was able to leave Davis Roots in a good position to continue to grow.
