Yolo Carbon Neutral by 2030
As the profound Anand Giridharadas has asked from us all, “not to just to play by the rules, but make the rules.” Make policy that works for people and the planet. That is what has been done in Yolo County California (west of Sacramento). In the build up to the 2020 victory, the Yolo Climate Emergency Coalition formed around the Greta Thunburg Climate Strike and succeeded in having the white male Yolo Board of Supervisors pass a resolution that includes carbon neutrality by 2030! We understand that this may be the first agricultural county to declare a climate emergency in the United States. Our work recognizes that we are settlers on the land of the Yocha Dehe Wintum and Patwin tribes whose nations continue, and who are central to YCEC work. I invite you to make sure carbon neutrality succeeds in Yolo County.
